Pediatric Dentist and Orthodontist for Children and Teenagers
As a pediatric dentist and orthodontist, we believe children and teenagers need preventive dentistry just as much as babies and toddlers. Teenagers are still experiencing growth in their face and jaw. It is also a common time for teenagers to have their wisdom teeth removed if necessary. As a St. Johns County pediatric dentist, we can care for your child’s teeth, whether they are a toddler or teenager.
As your child grows up, they experience more responsibilities such as deciding what they eat. Most teenagers are responsible for their own dietary choices and it is important they understand how nutrition can impact their dental health. By scheduling regular cleanings and checkups, our team can keep track of your child’s dental health. Regardless of your child’s age, they should floss daily and brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day.
When to Schedule Teeth Cleaning & Dental Checkups
We recommend that you schedule children’s dental care and checkups at our office every six months. However, depending on the circumstances of your child’s oral health, we may recommend more frequent visits. While providing high-quality preventive care and teeth cleaning for kids in the office, our staff is also enthusiastic about offering helpful tips and advice on maintaining good oral hygiene.
Is It Time for Braces?
Teens often have concerns about the appearance of their smiles. Fortunately, we offer orthodontic treatment alongside our dental treatments. For your scheduling convenience, we are often able to offer orthodontic consultations at the same time you come in for a regular cleaning. Please call and let us know you are interested in orthodontic treatment. Then we will schedule a meeting with our orthodontist.
During this time in your child’s life, it is common for the third molars (wisdom teeth) to develop. We are able to prescribe the proper treatment should your teen or tween experience issues with their third molars.
If your child plays a sport that involves contact, we recommend mouthguards to protect their teeth. Ask us about having a custom-fitted mouthguard made to protect your teen’s or tween’s teeth, lips, cheeks, and gums.
