Whether this is your child’s first-ever dental appointment or their first visit to our office, our team is skilled in the practice of easing your child’s mind and making them smile when they come to see us!
Below, you will find some helpful information regarding the first visit and what you can do to prepare your child for this appointment. If you have any questions, please give our team a call!
What To Expect
In most cases, we like to keep your child’s first appointment quick and easy. This time is all about getting to know them and helping them feel comfortable with dentistry! We will check your child’s teeth for placement and health, show them our dental instruments and perform a cleaning if necessary. If we discover the presence of decay or gum disease, we can set an appointment for treatment at a later date.
We recommend that your child visit us before their first birthday; free examinations are available for every patient below 18 months of age! By bringing your child to our office at an early age, we are able to build their confidence with dental care and prevent most problems before they develop.
At the end of the first visit, both you and your child will be supplied with information and resources to enhance your child’s teeth and gum health. We will take the time to answer any of your questions or address concerns as well. To ensure your child ends their appointment with a bright, happy smile, we will supply them with a goodie bag filled with dental products to enhance the cleaning routine at home!
How To Prepare
When it’s time to schedule your child’s first dental appointment, it’s essential that you begin preparing your child for the visit at home. Depending on your child’s age, have a conversation with them about the appointment and tell them what the dentist does! Maintain a joyful smile and positive attitude despite any concerns your child mentions. It’s important to show them that there is nothing to fear about an appointment with us; in fact, they will enjoy a cleaner, healthier smile by completing their visit! You can also try the following ideas:
- Show them pictures of our office.
- Tell them about each of our team members.
- Play a game of dentist and role-play the appointment.
- Read a children’s book about dental appointments.
If your child remains nervous about the appointment, rest assured that our professionals are trained in working with children and know how to calm anxious minds. We have a passion for the job and are beyond excited to transform your child’s thoughts about dental care and make the experience exciting for them! If desired, we do allow parents to accompany children to the treatment room.
